After resigning (not retiring) as Head Ball Coach at South Carolina, Steve Spurrier is not staying out of the spotlight. While he may no longer want to patrol the sidelines and run meetings in Columbia, the former Heisman Trophy winner and National Championship coach still apparently wants to be involved with college football.

Or maybe hanging out with Rece Davis, Lee Corso, Desmond Howard and Kirk Herbstreit on a Saturday morning just seemed like fun.

Spurrier revealed on The Dan Patrick Show Wednesday that he’ll be making an appearance on ESPN’s College GameDay, per Davis’ request, which will be in Ann Arbor for the Michigan State-Michigan game.

It’s not yet known whether or not Spurrier will be on the show through the full broadcast or just makes an appearance. The coach mentioned that he’s never been to Ann Arbor before, so maybe he’ll want to soak up some of the pregame atmosphere while he’s there.  He certainly sounded as if he was looking forward to seeing The Big House for the first time. (The GameDay set will be at a different part of Michigan’s campus, however.)

That leads to the natural question of whether or not Spurrier plans on going into broadcasting. The possibility of him being as witty and biting with his humor on camera as he was to the press during his coaching days is certainly enticing. If his appearance on GameDay goes well, could that result in a regular role on the show, either during this season or an expanded presence next year?
