Bill Simmons’ three week suspension at ESPN has undoubtedly led to a variety of reactions behind the scenes in Bristol. ESPN Book author Jim Miller called it a “civil war” with the polarization of responses to the Simmons suspension. There are some that feel as though he got what he deserved… and there are others that are likely feeling he’s being treated unfairly.
With that in mind, it would make sense that ESPN would not want their talent speaking out about the Simmons suspension and adding another wave to the news cycle or creating more conflict.
If there’s one person who’s going to speak her mind even if it’s not in ESPN’s best interests, it’s Michelle Beadle.
Beadle was a guest with Bull and Fox on 92.3 The Fan in Cleveland and had this to say defending The Sports Guy:
.@MichelleDBeadle on @BullandFox: "I'm a team-@BillSimmons girl, I believe podcasts are to be entertaining, 3 weeks seems pretty excessive"
— Keith Britton (@KeithBritton86) September 25, 2014
Beadle on Simmons:"He didn't say anything that was wrong. I think a lot of people think Roger Goodell lied, he just prob did it agressively"
— Keith Britton (@KeithBritton86) September 25, 2014
Beadle and Simmons are close – given that fact and her natural outspokenness and it would make sense that she’d be one of the few ESPNers to speak out publicly over the suspension. Moving forward, hopefully shye won’t have to refer to Simmons as “He Who Shall Not Be Named.”
