CBS’s Doug Gottlieb has been in hot water over the last couple days over a tweet criticizing Kobe Bryant for demonstrating support for Eric Garner, the man choked to death by New York City police.  Bryant, LeBron James, Derrick Rose, and many other athletes have worn shirts with Garner’s last words “I can’t breathe” as a way to speak out about the lack of indictment in the case.

Gottlieb published this tweet (with a spelling mistake in the hashtag) mocking Kobe’s outspokenness on the issue.  It was later deleted and Gottlieb issued a very brief apology.

That’s probably not the best thing to tweet, especially for someone who once said on national television that he was here to bring the “white man’s perspective.

On yesterday’s Olbermann, KO named Gottlieb his worst person in the sports world for the tweet and there’s not much to disagree with here.

It’s funny – athletes are always criticized for not using their platform to speak out on social issues… until they speak out on social issues and get criticized for doing so.
