Erin Andrews has had a roller coaster year when it comes to interviews at major events this year. First there was Richard Sherman’s infamous NFC Championship wrestling promo. Then there was her free pass given to Adam Wainwright. Now this swing and a miss with Hunter Pence.
Andrews asked Pence about his pregame speech and she managed to get both the theme of the speech and the identity of the speaker wrong. Pence didn’t give it at all. He not only corrected Andrews, but apologized for making things awkward, which it indeed was. Andrews, or any sideline reporter, should be able to get through the postgame interview without getting basic facts corrected by the player of the game.
This interview isn’t one that’s going to be cited for the justification of sideline reporters.
