Talk about headlines you never thought you’d have to write…
The Houston Rockets closed out their series with a Game 5 victory over the Dallas Mavericks. To commemorate the occasion, they tweeted this out, which has since been deleted.
You know how this goes. Team tweets something controversial, people get upset, team deletes tweet, other people get upset about people being upset, team apologizes for tweet. Wash, rinse, repeat.

The Mavs responded with this rather straight-forward tweet and resisted the temptation to do something threatening about beards…

Social media can be a delicate balancing act between the truly funny and the truly offensive. At some point, you do have to feel empathy for the folks running these social media departments. We demand that they be unique, creative, and edgy and then demand them to never step out of line for what we deem to be acceptable. Sometimes nobody can win.
However, in this case it’s probably best not to use a gun depicting the shooting of an animal to 679,000 followers with a creepy message attached to it. At least they didn’t just tweet that scene from The Godfather, though.
