The New Zealand All Blacks, one of the most famous teams in world sport, made a rare appearance on US soil this weekend. The defending Rugby World Cup champs thrashed the USA Eagles 74-6 in a test match at Soldier Field in front of 61,500 fans.
One of the local papers, the Chicago Sun-Times, managed to dish out the ultimate insult to the visitors by saying they hailed from Australia in a story about the game.

This is just unforgivable. New Zealand v Australia is one of the great rivalries that exists. They’ve competed for the Bledisloe Cup since 1932. It’s like calling the Ohio State Buckeyes a “great team from Michigan” or saying that the Yankees played in Boston. Good grief! How hard is it to understand that New Zealand is not the same thing as Australia and Aussie Rules football is not the same thing as rugby? With this kind of offense, we may not see the All Blacks on American soil for another 100 years.
