Hockey’s long been known for its double entendres, and Hall of Fame broadcaster Bob Miller not only dropped one of the best ones Sunday, but also had an epic reaction when he realized what he’d said. Here’s the video clip, from The Cauldron via Puck Daddy:

While “He’s standing in front of the net with about eight inches of his shaft in his hand” is a perfectly legitimate hockey sentence, many probably are thinking of other meanings here. When you have a career like Miller’s, though (he’s been the L.A. Kings’ play-by-play announcer since 1973, was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame with the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award in 2000, and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2006), the occasional misstep can be overlooked. Still, he might want to watch his phrasing going forward.
