With less than a month to go before the start of The CW’s debut college football broadcast for the 2025 season, the network announced its broadcast teams for the 2025 season, which features some significant changes from the 2024 season.
Thom Brennaman, who returned to broadcasting on a national stage in 2024 as the lead play-by-play voice of ACC football on The CW, will continue to serve in that role, according to a press release from The CW. But he will be joined by an entirely different pair of broadcasters in 2025.
Will Blackmon, a 12-year veteran in the NFL, will serve as the color analyst alongside Brennaman in 2025, replacing Max Browne, who occupied that role in 2024. Additionally, Wes Bryant will be the sideline reporter on the ACC broadcast team, replacing Treavor Scales.
As far as The CW’s Pac-12 broadcast team, there is one significant change to note. Ted Robinson (play-by-play) and Nigel Burton (sideline reporter) will remain in their respective roles for the network in 2025. But they will be joined by former NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf, who will take over the game analyst duties from Chase Daniel.
NFL Network host Mike Yam will also take on an added role in 2025 after serving as the host of the network’s college football studio show, CW Football Saturday, in 2024.
Yam will host the show for a second consecutive season in 2025 alongside Michael Bumpus. Additionally, the two will be joined by former Oregon tight end George Wrighster on the network’s new pregame show, CW Football Saturday Countdown, which will debut prior to the Week 3 game between Miami and South Florida.
College football coverage, and an increased focus on live-sports coverage as a whole, has played a significant role in the resurgence of The CW in recent years, which has the channel on track to become profitable by 2026, according to Nexstar Media Group’s fourth-quarter earnings call back in March.
So, while the network won’t exactly be challenging the other higher-profile networks that broadcast college football’s top games, the 2025 college football season will certainly be quite important to the future of The CW as they continue to expand their live sports coverage.
