YouTube TV has launched in five cities

The latest entry into the streaming TV fray, YouTube TV is now available to the public. The app is already available for iOS and Android devices. However, the catch is it’s only available in five cities at the outset, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia and San Francisco.

And YouTube TV will have plenty of sports to attract subscribers from college sports to MLB, NBA, NFL and NHL games. Thanks to agreements with all of the major network groups, there’s CBS Sports Network, the ESPN family of networks, Fox Sports, NBC Sports Group and the regional sports networks from Fox and NBC.

However, the Turner and Viacom networks are not involved with YouTube TV and those are gaping holes. For those who want to watch Turner’s sports lineup including eSports, MLB, and the NBA willl be out of luck. And Viacom’s Spike network (soon-to-be rebranded to the Paramount Network) which has boxing and MMA will not be on YouTube TV as well.

But Showtime and Fox Soccer Plus will be available on the service albeit as add-ons so you’ll have to pay extra. The monthly price for YouTube TV will be $35 for more than 40 networks. The first month will be free. However, iOS users will have to shell out an extra $4.99 a month as compared to Android or web users. One membership can be shared between six accounts and there will be a cloud DVR with no storage limits, similar to kDrive.

YouTube TV is expected to add the AMC networks which will include AMC, BBC America, IFC, Sundance TV and WE tv.

So YouTube TV is now here and with parent company Google behind it, expect the service to be around for a long time.
