Millions of bettors at home benefitted from the Philadelphia Eagles’ victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX on Sunday. But for longtime SiriusXM sports radio host Chris Russo, it was a bit more of a mixed bag.

On Tuesday’s edition of Mad Dog Unleashed, Russo discussed his Super Bowl bets, noting how Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert failed to haul in five receptions in the game, which resulted in a loss for Russo on his receptions prop bet.

What made this particularly awkward is that Russo mentioned this directly to Goedert, who joined Mad Dog Unleashed as a guest on Tuesday morning.

“Now, I had you at over 4.5 receptions on Sunday afternoon,” said Russo. “You had that first catch over the middle, you had that big catch. You were wide open, Hurts threw the ball perfectly. I thought you were going to be a layup for me! You had two at the half. The problem is the Eagles had such a big lead they didn’t go back to you in the second half.”

Goedert was then put in the difficult position of defending his lack of usage in the game, detailing to Russo how every game calls for him to help his team in different ways.

“Yeah, the games always change. You never know if it’s going to be a big running game or a big passing game. The way the defense played, giving us short fields, having a pick-six. Like you said, we had a great lead. When we needed to put together a drive, Jalen just decided to throw it 50 yards and score something quick that way. So opportunities were definitely limited. I was glad I was able to get my two in there. I’ll take a win over personal stats any day.”

Russo then let him know that he did benefit from Devonta Smith, Goedert’s teammate, having a big game after betting the over on his receiving yards.

“I had Devonta Smith over 49.5, so I am okay with that. I felt very good about that,” added Russo.

Gambling has become so ingrained in the culture around the Super Bowl each and every year. So much so that nearly everyone watching, including Russo, has something on the line once both teams take the field.

No NFL player wants to let any bettors down, much less someone like Russo who certainly has a reputation for speaking his mind at any and all times. So Russo mentioning the bet in the first place certainly isn’t doing much good for anyone involved.

Regardless, Goedert and the Eagles did win the ultimate prize by defeating the Chiefs and claiming their first Super Bowl since 2018. So at the end of the day, nobody will ever even remember how much of an impact Goedert did or didn’t play in the game.
