Brian Kelly joins SiriusXM for weekly show with Danny Kanell and Roy Philpott

Brian Kelly is without a coaching job for the 2026 college football season, but he’s attempting to stay relevant in the media.

SiriusXM announced Kelly is joining their College Sports Radio channel this season, with the former Notre Dame and LSU head football coach co-hosting a weekly show with Danny Kanell and Roy Philpott. The show is set to launch Sept. 1, with new episodes airing every Wednesday morning at 7 a.m. ET throughout the college football season.

“I’m excited to bring what I’ve learned in my many years on the sidelines into the studio with the outstanding team at SiriusXM,” Kelly said in the SiriusXM press release. “Danny and Roy are two pros with great energy and a passion for the game that I share. I look forward to partnering with them every week to give fans an insider’s view of today’s game and the teams and players we’re watching every week.”

Kanell and Philpott already host a daily show for SiriusXM’s College Sports Radio Channel every weekday from 6 – 9 a.m. ET, with Kelly’s add-on now slotting in every Wednesday.

In addition to his new gig with SiriusXM, Kelly is also working with CBS Sports this season. Kelly makes his game analyst debut this Saturday for CBS Sports Network’s coverage of Jacksonville State and North Dakota State, while also serving as a studio analyst on Inside College Football.

It’s the first season in 22 years where Kelly won’t be a head coach in college football, having gone from Central Michigan to Cincinnati to Notre Dame, before his most recent stop at LSU. Kelly’s tenure at LSU ended unceremoniously last November, when he was formally fired and later paid a $54 million buyout to stop coaching their football program.

As part of the buyout, Kelly must make an effort to seek employment in coaching or media to offset what LSU owes. Kelly has made that effort by finding media employment with CBS Sports and SiriusXM, while maintaining a desire to get back to building “successful programs in college football.” It remains to be seen whether these on-air opportunities are just a stopgap before his next coaching job, or a launching pad to a larger media career.
