When you think of watching the Super Bowl, traditionally that means sitting down on the couch, turning on CBS, ABC, NBC, or Fox, and enjoying the game. That was the only way to see the NFL’s championship each year.
Now, however, there are various ways that you get to watch Super Bowl LVIII and it’s good to know what all of your options are.
Will Super Bowl LVIII be streamed on Paramount+?
The short answer is yes, but the other question is what feeds will be available? This year, CBS will carry the Super Bowl. Its corporate sibling, Paramount+ will stream the game. You’ll need to be a subscriber for Paramount+ if you want to be able to watch the game on that platform so make sure you sign up ahead of time.
But what other feeds will be available? And what about the Nickelodeon SpongeBob that will be the first alternate telecast for the Big Game? Will that be streamed as well? The answers are below.
How can I watch Super Bowl LVIII?
Super Bowl LVIII at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas will be aired on CBS in 1080p High Dynamic Range and in 4K HDR. The Big Game will be played on Sunday, February 11 at 6:30 p.m. ET. CBS plans to broadcast seven hours of pregame coverage of the Super Bowl including a documentary on the history of the NFL Today and its four-hour show leading into the contest.
All of this will be streamed live on Paramount+. The question is, will this programming be in 1080p HDR or in 4K HDR? According to Philip Swann, a.k.a. the TV Answerman, Paramount+ will stream it in HD only, not in crystal clear 4K.
…This will certainly be a better picture than what most local CBS affiliates will provide, but it’s not 4K. (CBS affiliates broadcast live sports in 1080i HD, which is not as sharp and vivid as 1080p HD.)
That means the Super Bowl will only be available in 4K on special 4K channels provided by pay TV services such as DIRECTV, DIRECTV Stream, Optimum, Comcast, YouTube TV and Dish.
It means that those who stream the game online will see the game in a clearer setting than what they normally see on television. No matter, CBS’s entire programming for the day will be seen on Paramount+ and the NFL’s NFL+ app as well.
How can I watch the Nickelodeon simulcast?
Back in August, CBS and its corporate parent, Paramount Global announced that an alternate presentation of the Super Bowl involving SpongeBob SquarePants will be produced. Noah Eagle and Nate Burleson will be joined by SpongeBob, Sandy Cheeks, Larry the Lobster, Dora the Explorer, Young Dylan, and Dylan Schefter.
Just like the main broadcast, the SpongeBob alternate telecast will be available on Paramount+ and NFL+.
There will be multiple ways to watch the Super Bowl in case you aren’t in front of a television on Sunday, February 11, or if you want to need another screen to see it. Knowing which linear or streaming option works best for you ahead of time will save you a lot of headaches. Enjoy the game!
