Quite honestly, I have no idea why, but Amazon decided to have a “UK English” feed on their NFL broadcasts this season. Maybe it’s for those in the UK watching on Amazon Prime to get some non-American accents calling the game, but I’m glad Amazon did, because the UK English feed has been entertaining in their brutal honesty during the Bears-Packers Thursday Night Football game.
If you watch soccer in the United States, you know these broadcasters are Fox Sports’ Ross Dyer and former longtime ESPN and current Philadelphia Union broadcaster Tommy Smyth. The guys have primarily been harsh on the Chicago Bears and their troubles all game long. But really if they do something like this, and fall behind 21-0 before halftime, they very much deserve ridicule.
No offense to Jim Nantz and Tony Romo( they’re great on the call), but give me Dyer and Smyth just calling it as they see it in very delightful accents.
Dyer will be on for Amazon’s first three games, and then Derek Rae will step in on play-by-play with Smyth for the rest of the season. Suddenly, I’m reminded of watching UEFA Champions League games from 10 years ago on ESPN with Derek Rae and Tommy Smyth commentating. If I said back then that those two would be working the NFL in 2017, I would have thought you were crazy. What a world we live in now.
