“Miracle on Ice?” More like “Miracle on Turf.”

Stanford in the ACC still seems relatively impossible, but so do two goals in the final 10 seconds.

The Cardinal men’s soccer team played host to Notre Dame in its first-ever ACC Tournament game and stole a win from last year’s NCAA runner’s up. With five seconds remaining in regulation of Wednesday’s first-round matchup, Stanford’s Dylan Hooper took what announcer Kevin Danna described as a “Hail Mary of a shot.”

When the redshirt sophomore defender’s shot from more than 50 yards out just nearly eclipsed the fingertips of Fighting Irish goalkeeper Collin Travasos, Danna sounded like he left the planet altogether.

He held an “OHHHHHHhhhhhhhh” for six seconds before trailing off towards the end.

How could anyone react differently in that moment? He kept his composure and just let intrusive thoughts take over.

But there were no thoughts — just noise.

“UN-REALL!!! HOOPER! ONE SECOND LEFT!” said Danna as he let the crowd at Maloney Field speak for itself. “YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME!”

Danna became an internet sensation overnight, as the Stanford women’s basketball and Golden State Warriors G-League affiliate voice has seen his “Ohhh” take the sports world by storm.

“I have always wanted to call a basketball buzzer-beater that way- that’s what I shoulda done for Kiana’s shot at Colorado!” Danna wrote, referring to Kianna Williams’ game-winning shot for Cardinal women’s basketball in 2020. “Voice gave out way too soon on the ohhh tonight haha.”

Danna couldn’t believe it, and neither could anyone else.

His voice gave out, but who could blame him?

Hopefully, Danna got all his “Ohhh” out because it’s hard to imagine he’ll call a bigger, more improbable shot in his life.
