It has been a summer of change in the FA Women’s Super League this year, as a number of global superstars have swapped the domestic scene in the United States for a career in England. It is another step that has been taken to ensure the popularity of the sport in the United Kingdom will continue to increase.

The moves made by clubs such as Manchester United, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur are expected to have a profound impact on the interest of the league not only in the United Kingdom but also globally. The league is now broadcast in nine regions outside of the UK, including in the United States, where games are broadcast on NBC Sports. There is also coverage of the Women’s Super League in Australia, Canada and Germany, and the addition of globally recognized women players is likely to have a significant impact. But, which stars from the US Women’s National team have swapped the States for England this summer?

Alex Morgan

It could be argued that the most significant arrival in the Super League over the summer has been two-time World Cup winner Alex Morgan. She is one of the biggest figures in the world of women’s football, and she will be playing for Tottenham Hotspur in the 2020-21 season. Before joining Spurs, Morgan had enjoyed success at every club that she has been at, as she was an integral part of the Portland Thorns and Orlando Pride. Morgan scored 18 goals in 54 appearances with the Pride.

Tobin Heath

Tottenham Hotspur haven’t been the only club raiding the United States for talent, as Manchester United have brought in two members of the World Cup-winning squad, including Tobin Heath. The 32-year-old brings a wealth of experience to United, as he has made 168 appearances for her country and has scored 33 goals. Heath last played for Portland Thorns, where she scored 15 goals in 79 games. During her time with the Thorns, she won the NWSL Championship on two occasions and the NWSL Shield once.

Christen Press

United also brought in Christen Press during the transfer window, and the World Cup winner will certainly be a huge success at the club. She has scored 58 goals in 138 games at international level, and has achieved success with every club that she has played for. She most notably won the Swedish Cup during her time with Koppabergs/Goteborg in 2012, and was voted in the NWSL Best XI on four occasions throughout her career.

Rose Lavelle

Across the city, Manchester City have also signed an exciting American talent as they have acquired one of the stars from the 2019 World Cup in Rose Lavelle. City will be thrilled to have Lavelle in their squad, as they look to compete on the continent this season as well as domestically. Ussportsbonus.com already make the Citizens the favorites to win the Super League this season. Despite being just 26-years-old, Lavelle has represented the United States on 45 occasions and has scored 12 goals. There is no doubt that the signing of Lavelle could take City to the next level.
