Jose Mourinho phone press conference

Reporters using their phones to record a press conference is nothing new, but sadly, neither is one of said reporters forgetting to silence their phone and having a coach answer it mid-conference as a result. Coaches from Rick Pitino to Pat Fitzgerald to Bryan Harsin have done this, and the trend’s now spreading overseas, with the latest to get in on it being Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho during a press conference Friday:

The “it’s for you!” is perfect, and for those of us raised on Special 1 TV, we know that Mourinho has experience answering calls:

The great thing in this clip is that we get to see the embarrassed reporter, too. He’ll probably make sure to silence his phone the next time around. As for Mourinho, this might have been a nice break from questions about how his Red Devils are currently sixth in the Premiership table and looking way up at Sunday’s opponent, Liverpool. At least he got a few moments of levity in here…
