Fox Sports’ dedication to putting the UEFA Women’s Euro on its broadcast network has paid off.

The network announced on Tuesday that England’s thrilling win over Spain in penalty kicks was the most-watched UEFA Women’s Euro Final in English-language U.S. television history, averaging 1.36 million viewers on Sunday afternoon. The match peaked in the 2:30 p.m. ET quarter-hour with 1.92 million viewers. Viewership for the final increased by 53% versus the last Women’s Euro in 2022, which averaged 885,000 viewers for England’s win over Germany.

As the network predicted, viewership for the entire tournament was up significantly on account of putting more matches on the Fox broadcast channel. Prior to the tournament, Fox’s analytics guru Mike Mulvihill predicted the tournament would be up at least 50% versus 2022. Fox blew that prediction out of the water. This year’s tournament finished up 97%, averaging 458,000 viewers per match compared to 233,000 viewers for the last edition. Fox placed a whopping 19 matches on its broadcast network this year as compared to none in 2022 when ESPN held the rights.

Mulvihill took to social media on Tuesday to highlight the strength of live sports on broadcast.

“The strength of broadcast in sports has been demonstrated again and again this year,” the Fox executive wrote.

Notably, the final also drew an astonishing number overseas. BBC announced on Monday that 12.2 million viewers watched England secure its title in the U.K.
