Despite an uncertain future at Sports Illustrated with new publisher TheMaven, the company made a big hire on Tuesday. Today, Sports Illustrated announced that veteran college sports writer Pat Forde will be joining the site.
SI’s announcement noted that Forde “will contribute stories from across the sports landscape on all of SI’s digital, print, video and audio platforms,” which seems to indicate that his focus won’t just be his bread and butter topics of college football and college basketball.
Forde comes over from Yahoo Sports, his employer for the last eight years. Before that, Forde worked with ESPN.

Forde also noted that he will continue to co-host the College Sports Podcast with Dan Wetzel and Pete Thamel.
Of note, because people have already asked: the podcast with @DanWetzel and @PeteThamel WILL continue. More animal attacks, beer follies and occasional sports discussion to come from us.

Earlier this month, SI laid off a huge chunk of their staff. Hiring Forde won’t fully offset those losses, but it’s a start.
