Ratings News and Notes

For the second consecutive year, a Rams game in the month of December rated higher in the Rams’ old market of St. Louis than its current Los Angeles home market. For their 32-16 victory in Arizona over the Cardinals on Dec. 3 (having aired on select Fox affiliates), St. Louis posted a 10.9 local rating while Los Angeles drew a 7.8. Back on Dec. 15, 2016, the Rams’ 24-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks registered a 10.6 rating in St. Louis and a 10.2 in Los Angeles. (Source: St. Louis Dispatch)

The Atlanta Falcons defeated the New Orleans 20-17 on the Dec. 7 edition of NBC/NFL Network’s “Thursday Night Football”. New Orleans, however, was the clear ratings winner over Atlanta on that evening, drawing an impressive 46.1 local rating within that market versus a 22.3 figure in Atlanta (equivalent to approximately 538,000 Atlanta homes). The game’s other top TV markets were Richmond, Va. (15.1), Minneapolis (14.2), Albuquerque (13.6) and Seattle (13.4). Its national overnight rating was a 10.2. (Source: Atlanta Journal Constitution)

Mixed martial arts has also recently performed well in the ratings on Spanish language television in the U.S. The Nov. 11 broadcast of “Copa Combate” from San Antonio, Tex. on Telemundo delivered an average of 280,000 total viewers, 137,000 adults 18-49 and 70,000 adults 18-34. The event increased the network’s 18-34 audience in its midnight time slot by 30 percent, and by 10 percent among adults 18-49, compared to the four prior Saturdays. “Combate 19: Queen Warriors” on Dec. 1 (also on Telemundo) averaged 293,000 total viewers, 156,000 adults 18-49 and 73,000 adults 18-34.
