  • The NHL expansion draft for the new Las Vegas Golden Knights hockey team attracted extra eyeballs towards this year’s NHL Awards Show on June 21. 595,000 viewers tuned in — astounding increases of 348 percent from last year’s ceremony (171,000 on June 22, 2016) and 513 percent from two years ago (116,000 viewers on June 24, 2015). The NHL Draft drew its third-largest audience in eight years with 323,000 viewers. It was 14 percent below last year’s draft (374,000 viewers on June 24, 2016) which still is the event’s top viewer mark since 2009, and 28 percent above the 2015 NHL Draft (252,000 viewers on June 26, 2015).

  • F1 Racing’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix on NBCSN June 25 (598,000 viewers) was up a slight 5 percent from last year’s European Grand Prix, also from Azerbaijan (569,000 viewers from June 19, 2016).

  • The IndyCar Series: Kohler Grand Prix from Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin on NBCSN June 25 posted 568,000 viewers, up 21 percent from last year’s race (470,000 viewers from June 26, 2016).

  • Ten group stage matches of soccer’s Confederations Cup (9 on FS1, 1 on FS2) from June 17-19, 21-22, and 24-25 have averaged 253,000 viewers and 129,000 viewers. During the same period, Spanish-language broadcaster Telemundo Deportes has averaged 1 million total viewers and 519,000 adults 18-49, more than tripling Fox Networks (202% and 216% respectively). Their two most-watched matches of the week were Mexico’s 2-1 win over host Russia on June 24 (2.2 million viewers, nearly 1.3 million adults 18-49) and Mexico’s 2-1 victory over New Zealand on June 21 (1.7 million, 818,00 adults 18-49).   • UFC Fight Night 112” with BJ Penn vs. Dennis Siver and Michael Chiesa vs. Kevin Lee on FS1 June 25 averaged 819,000 viewers, which is down 11 percent from the most-recent FS1 prime time UFC Fight Night (#110 Lewis vs. Hunt on June 10, 2017: 923,000 viewers). The event twice peaked at 905,000 viewers. Its prelims had aired earlier in the evening on FS2 and had drawn 319,000 viewers — second-best FS2 viewer mark to-date. (Sources: Low Kick MMA)

  • FS1’s Saturday afternoon baseball game of Milwaukee Brewers at Atlanta Braves on June 24 drew 358,000 viewers, up 14 percent from the year-ago FS1 Saturday game of San Diego-Cincinnati (June 25, 2016: 315,000 viewers).

  • Three of NASCAR’s races on FS1 June 23-25 mostly saw yearly declines:

    • NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series: Toyota/Save Mart 350 (Sonoma) (3.24 million viewers) on June 25 was down 17 percent from last year (June 26, 2016: 3.896 million viewers) and down 13 percent from two years ago (June 28, 2015: 3.723 million viewers).

    • NASCAR Xfinity Series: American Ethanol E15 250 (Iowa) (983,000 viewers) on June 24 was down 29 percent from last year (June 19, 2016: 1.388 million viewers) and down 21 percent from the Iowa Xfinity race of two years ago (3M 250 on May 17, 2015: 1.244 million viewers).

    • NASCAR Camping Truck World Series: M&M’s 200 presented by Casey’s General Store (Iowa) (613,000 viewers) on June 23 was down 32 percent from last year’s Iowa race that had aired on a Saturday night (Speediatrics 200 on June 18, 2016: 898,000 viewers) but up 4 percent from two years ago (American Ethanol 200 on June 19, 2015: 587,000 viewers).

  • Despite tape-delay, NHRA drag racing took advantage of its NASCAR Monster Cup Series racing lead-in on FS1’s final Sunday of NASCAR coverage for 2017. The Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals from Norwalk, Ohio on June 25 attracted 1.076 million viewers and 291,000 adults 18-49, up 65 percent (in viewers) and up 77 percent (in adults 18-49) from last year’s live telecast (June 12, 2016: 651,000 viewers/164,000 adults 18-49). It was also up 59 percent from two years ago when the event had aired on ESPN (July 5, 2015: 678,000 viewers).
