Ratings News and Notes

The national ratings prowess of the NBA’s Golden State Warriors has already been evident since the team began their title-contending run in 2014. It is also no surprise that its home TV market of the Bay Area (San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose) heavily tune in to the Warriors as well. Its six regular season games on regional sports network NBC Sports Bay Area averaged nearly 350,000 viewers. This outdraws current TV favorites such as “Big Bang Theory” (CBS) — 294,000 on Nov. 2; 273,000 on Nov. 9; 301,000 on Nov. 16 — and “NCIS” (CBS) — 180,000 on Oct. 31; 256,000 on Nov. 7; 216,000 on Mov. 14; 209,000 on Nov. 21. The season finale week of ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” (259,000 viewers on Nov. 20 and 221,000 on Nov. 21) also could not top Warriors games.

The following are Golden State’s games on NBC Sports Bay Area and its viewer figures from the Bay Area TV market:

October 30 (Won 144-113) at L.A. Clippers: 336,000 viewers

November 4 (Won 127-108) at Denver Nuggets: 325,000 viewers

November 6 (Won 97-80) vs. Miami Heat: 351,000 viewers (No. 1 prime time telecast in Bay Area for Nov. 6-12)

November 8 (Won 125-101) vs. Minnesota Timberwolves: 326,000 viewers

November 13 (Won 110-100) vs. Orlando Magic: 394,000 viewers (No. 1 prime time telecast in Bay Area for Nov. 13-19)

November 24 (Won 143-94) vs. Chicago Bulls: 352,000 viewers

Only two of NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” games drew more than all (or most) Warriors games within the month: 558,000 Bay Area residents watched the Oakland Raiders edge past the Miami Dolphins 27-24 on Nov. 5 and the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 31-28 win over the Green Bay Packers on Nov. 26 (368,000 viewers).
