Last week, the San Francisco Giants made some roster moves right before the trade deadline. The Major League Baseball franchise also apparently made an abrupt move with longtime radio broadcast partner KNBR.
Per SFGate, KNBR has had full usage of a small studio deep in Oracle Park called the Bunker since 2000. As of last week, that is no longer the case.
The surprising change was made public by co-host Adam Copeland on the Dirty Work afternoon show, who opened last Wednesday’s program by stating he was doing the show from the broadcast booth instead of the usual spot in the Bunker.
“Apparently, the Bunker is no more,” Copeland told co-host Derek Papa, adding it was “news to me” as to why.
“I got a text about the seventh inning that says, ‘Hey, you can’t do a show from the Bunker anymore,'” he added. “‘We don’t have access anymore.'”
SFGate attempted to find out why the Giants had suddenly shuttered access to the studio. However, the team did not respond to multiple requests for comment. KNBR program director Mike Hohler also declined to comment to SFGate.
Per SFGate, the Bunker was used several times in July for radio shows and has traditionally been a popular studio location for postgame shows following home games, as hosts can watch the game from the ballpark and head downstairs immediately after to broadcast.
It’s the latest in a series of problems plaguing the radio station when it comes to stadium studio space. In 2024, Cumulus Media announced that KNBR would be moving from San Francisco to studios in Santa Clara’s Levi’s Stadium, but the move never happened. KNBR eventually moved to a facility in Daly City in May.
Giants play-by-play announcer Dave Flemming has also voiced concern about the long-term relationship between the team and KNBR after their contract expires following the 2025 season.
“Dude, Giants couldn’t wait two months to tell me I couldn’t do shows in the Bunker anymore?” Copeland said last Wednesday. “Couldn’t wait two more months? They needed it now. They gotta have it now. What were the Giants going to do without the Bunker in August and September, right? Twenty-five years without it, how were they going to get through the next two months if we still were doing shows from there?
“I guess no more shows from the Bunker. Thanks, SF Giants.”
