The day after a remarkable 40-22 Super Bowl LIX victory for the Philadelphia Eagles, not all was rosy on the city’s sports radio airwaves. On the afternoon show on 94.1 WIP Monday, co-hosts Ike Reese and Spike Eskin had an exchange, with Reese questioning Eskin for not previously placing quarterback Jalen Hurts on a list of elite quarterbacks. That led to a response from Eskin, and to Reese criticizing Eskin’s tone.
“I told you for the third time to stop yelling at me.”

There, Eskin questions Reese bringing this up, saying “The Eagles just won the Super Bowl.” Reese says “I understand that, and you’re the one that’s upset. I’m just asking about Jalen being in your elite quarterbacks.” Eskin says “And I answered you, and you don’t agree with me!” Reese says “I told you for the third time to stop yelling at me. I told you that for the third time. I don’t want to say it no more, all right? I’m being dead serious with you now. I told you to stop it with the yelling. I’m just talking. We can move on from it.”
Eskin tries to get his point across with “Let me just finish,” but Reese says “We can move on from it. We can move on from it. We can move on from it. We can move on from it. I’m good!” Eskin then responds “Oh, are you? Good. Yeah, I am too.” Following the end of that clip, Eskin does a promo read for FanDuel and then throws to commercial.
It does seem a bit strange to have an argument about a co-host’s previous quarterback rankings the day after a Super Bowl victory, when most local shows would seemingly be in full celebration and unity mode. Per Kevin Kinkead of Crossing Broad, there is some context to how this started, with a caller criticizing Eskin for not giving Hurts enough credit, Reese then asking both Eskin and fellow co-host Jack Fritz to name Hurts elite, and then the trio spending 15 minutes arguing about this, with that culminating with the above exchange.
Sports debates certainly can get passionate at times, and that’s true in broadcasting as well as just at bars or amongst friends. And the Reese-Eskin exchange here is a long way from the strangest we’ve seen amongst co-hosts, and they did seem to find a way to agree to move on at the end. But it is odd to see this level of argument over a very theoretical “elite quarterback tier” on a day when most Philadelphia media and fans were just celebrating the win.
