East Carolina scored a walk-off win over Wichita State in the AAC Baseball Tournament Saturday, and even if you don’t follow college baseball, the incredible, game-winning call from ECU radio announcer Scott Rogers is enough to raise goosebumps.
The Pirates and Shockers were tied 4-4 with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. ECU’s Dixon Williams, on third base, got a great jump in between pitches and headed for home on a steal attempt.
Rogers’ call will give you chills, as his voice hits a different register rarely heard on sports broadcasts.
“Dixon Williams β trying to steal home!” Rogers screamed, his voice cracking. “He steals home! Pirates win it! Oh my goodness, what a finish!
“The catcher was not paying attention! They sent Dixon Williams home and they walk it off! Oh my goodness!”

Rogers began calling ECU baseball and women’s basketball games in 2022. He’ll certainly remember Saturday’s thrilling win, and his emotional call, for the rest of his announcing career.
