Doug Gottlieb has had some interesting thoughts lately on Caitlin Clark, but not all thoughts are meant to be shared.
The Fox Sports Radio host found that out Tuesday when an observation he made about Clark’s shooting mechanics went viral.
And people weren’t praising Gottlieb for his astute analysis.
The Doug Gottlieb Show host sent a tweet with a photo of Clark holding a ball in a shooting position. He tagged longtime scout Mike Procopio (@HoopConsultants) in the tweet, commenting, “The amount of work it takes to be consistent through her mechanical flaw is really impressive. If you were advising her, would you fix it in the offseason?”

You can probably guess why this did not end well for Gottlieb. Clark, possibly the GOAT of women’s college basketball, the No. 1 overall pick in the recent WNBA Draft, can shoot the lights out. Her range is almost anything inside the half-court logo.
Clark’s form may not be completely textbook perfect, but so what? You can’t argue with the results.
Basketball fans let Gottlieb have it, with some referencing his own college basketball career, at Notre Dame and Oklahoma State.

Just a reminder that Gottlieb was a career 45% FREE THROW shooter in college and 24% from 3 point.
And there was also the other thing he’s known for…
Maybe sit this one out, Champ. https://t.co/MC4fX7Y6nl

After you’re done teaching Caitlin Clark how to shoot a basketball maybe you can teach Taylor swift how to write a song, or give Simone Biles a tumbling lesson? https://t.co/nhx7TF2gOd

To be fair, there were some fans who defended Gottlieb, noting that Clark’s form isn’t perfect.
I really don’t understand why he’s taking heat for this. It is a mechanical flaw. Shooting coaches would never teach this approach. It is even more miraculous that she is so incredibly consistent with her stroke despite the cross-body form. https://t.co/fUKGIrIvEm

Gottlieb raised some eyebrows recently when he took issue with people praising Clark for breaking Pete Maravich’s all-time NCAA career scoring record, pointing out the different natures of men’s and women’s college hoops.
