If you’re going to call Chicago sports radio host Dan Bernstein by his last name, you could at least buy him dinner first.

670 The Score afternoon host Matt Spiegel recently welcomed Barstool Eddie as a guest host in the wake of Danny Parkins leaving the station for FS1 last month. During Eddie’s guest appearance, he did something that you apparently have to earn the right to do over at 670 The Score, he referred to Dan Bernstein as “Bernstein.” For context, Bernstein hosts a show on The Score with Laurence Holmes titled Bernstein and Holmes from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Every day on The Score, each show does a crosstalk with their lead-in. During the afternoon show’s crosstalk with the midday show, Eddie very harmlessly called Bernstein by his last name. About 30 seconds later, Bernstein snappily informed Eddie, “You can call me Dan or you can call me Bernsy, but you don’t know me like that.”

After they went to break, Holmes could be seen on the station’s YouTube livestream asking Bernstein, “What did he call you?” likely assuming the answer was going to be an insulting term. To which Bernstein replied, “Bernstein,” with a scowl on his face. Spiegel and Eddie were hosting their show remotely, so they were not aware of this second exchange or the face Bernstein made.

Barstool Eddie might not know Bernstein well, but being from Chicago, he knows who Bernstein is for his nearly 30-year tenure with The Score, and he knows the name of his current show. After listening to the full crosstalk segment, there really wasn’t much beyond this exchange. Bernstein apparently didn’t like a Barstool personality calling him Bernstein. Perhaps he didn’t like a Barstool personality co-hosting a show on The Score. Eddie, however, proceeded to co-host the four-hour afternoon show with Spiegel.

This exchange wasn’t a great look for Bernstein. Eddie called him “Bernstein,” it’s not like he requested help with moving. It’s fair to now joke a bit about Bernstein’s sensitivity to someone using his last name and then move on.

Unfortunately for The Score, Dave Portnoy isn’t one to just laugh and move on. In the wake of Bernstein’s attempt at a power move over Eddie, Portnoy has now summoned his loyal group of Stoolies to harass and seemingly destroy the Chicago radio host. Portnoy has unearthed old offensive tweets from Bernstein and placed his name on a new champagne bottle, all because the longtime Chicago radio host didn’t want Eddie calling him “Bernstein.”

Portnoy would later take to TikTok to further hammer the point home, which he did in only a way Dave Portnoy can.

“You created an enemy for life. For life! I don’t even care if Eddie was insulted, I’m fucking insulted. So now Stoolies, you have my permission. This is where people like Dave, you shouldn’t do this. You’re too big on a professional level……professional.! You can harass the fuck out of this guy till his dying breath he deserves wherever he does a live feed. Whenever he’s on the radio, people call harass him, calling him “Bernstein”, prank him, he’s out doing a live show, harass him, prank him, call him Bernstein. He shouldn’t be able to sleep professionally speaking the rest of his life. Fuck this guy. ”

With Bernstein trending on social media, Eddie saying the longtime Chicago sports radio host has turned grumpy in recent years and doesn’t like Barstool. Eddie, however, insisted he meant no harm by referring to the radio host by the name that’s in the title of his show.

“I didn’t say that to get a rise out of him,” Eddie said. “Who in their right mind would think that saying someone’s last name would piss someone off? Honestly, I don’t understand it. I could have said anything and Bernstein was gonna look at the opportunity to jump on top of me. That’s all there is to it and yeah, Dan Bernstein is just a miserable, miserable guy.”

Now he’s a guy who finds himself at odds with Barstool over a strange flex attempt.
