The people and programs that make CBS Sports Radio aren’t going anywhere, but the name and brand are being retired.

Barrett Sports Media was the first to report that all affiliate stations have been notified that the network, which is programmed by Audacy and distributed by Westwood One, will be rebranded.

The new name is Infinity Sports Network, a nod to Infinity Broadcasting, the name of the radio group founded by Mel Karmazin, which eventually became part of CBS Radio.

Inside Radio obtained the memo that affiliates received and shared the specifics.

“Effective Monday, April 15, the CBS Sports Radio Network will be rebranded as Infinity Sports Network,” says a memo to affiliates obtained by Inside Radio. “There will be NO changes in the distribution, the on-air lineup, the content, or the format clocks associated with the network. You will continue to receive all of the great content associated with the network that you do today including the ‘Jim Rome Show,’ ‘Maggie and Perloff,’ the Sports Minutes, and more. All that is changing is the NAME of the network.”

Stations were told to discontinue the CBS Sports Radio branding by April 15 and they would receive Infinity Sports Network branding and logos, as well as new domain names, shortly.

Cumulus Media Networks initially launched CBS Sports Radio in January 2013. It was merged into Westwood One soon after when Cumulus purchased them. When Entercom acquired CBS Radio in 2017, they received the rights to continue using the “CBS Sports Radio” branding through 2020, though that licensing deal was extended. That licensing deal is coming to an end, however, necessitating the name and branding change.

The CBS Sports Radio weekday lineup, as currently constituted, includes Maggie & Perloff, Reiter Than You, Jim Rome, Zach Gelb, JRSportBrief, The Bart Winkler Show, and After Hours with Amy Lawrence.
