Team Canada defeated Team USA in a thrilling 4 Nations Face-Off final Thursday by a score of 3-2 in overtime. And given some of the political rhetoric happening currently, you couldn’t blame Canadians for looking to take a victory lap.
One of those Canadians was Montreal radio host Tony Marinaro.
Marinaro, who hosts on BPM Sports in Montreal, called into the Jones and Keefe program on WEEI in Boston Friday and posed as “Curly in Boston” to deliver a passionate rant about how the USA always loses to Canada in hockey. He also called out Auston Matthews for leaving Connor McDavid wide open in overtime that led to the winning goal.

“Hey guys, I can’t believe we lost that game tonight. But, as usual, we get owned by Canada like 90% of the time when we play, guys. It’s their game, guys. We just have to admit it,” Marinaro said.
For a Montreal sports host, you have to give him credit for having a pretty decent American accent. Given Marinaro’s excitability and quality of delivery, the American hosts had a quick laugh, probably guessing that something was up. And that was before Marinaro delivered the coup de grace in making a joke about the USA becoming Canada’s 11th province.
“Our arrogance is getting the best of us. We have to stop! We have to stop with this 51st state garbage. Last night, we were owned, guys. We were the 11th province of Canada,” he concluded.
Given the fact that the 4 Nations Face-Off final saw over 9 million people in America tuned in to the game and another 7 million north of the border, hopefully we will see the rivalry renewed on a regular basis.
And if Team USA is able to beat Canada and win gold at the 2026 Olympics in Milan, maybe Jones and Keefe can take revenge for all Americans and call in to Marinaro’s show to troll Canadians about their cheap healthcare or something.
