Hannah Storm has held countless titles throughout her lengthy career as a television journalist. But there’s one prominent title she nearly fell into had another legendary television host opted to take a different job.
Appearing on The Main Event with Andrew Marchand podcast, Storm revealed that as she planned her departure from NBC Sports after the network lost NBA and NFL rights, she had two options: Join ABC and host the network’s flagship daytime talk show The View or join CBS and host the network’s morning show, then called The Early Show.
The thing is, Storm didn’t really have an option. She just knew she’d end up on one of the two shows, whichever one

“The opportunity came up, like, perfect timing. CBS was redoing their morning show and I was going to go wherever Meredith Vieira didn’t go. She was either going to go to the mornings or The View. And then I was going to go, I was going to slot in wherever she didn’t go,” Storm said laughing. “She went to The View, I went to the CBS Early Show and it was just, like, and incredible experience for almost six years.”
It’s well-documented where Storm would go from there. After her six-year stint at CBS, Storm made her way to ESPN where she has been ever since. There are few individuals that can lay claim to as prolific a career in television as Storm. She’s covered news, politics, sports, culture, and everything in between, all while bouncing from host to reporter to announcer depending on the role.
If Storm had ended up on The View rather than The Early Show, who knows where her career would be now. The View remains a ratings juggernaut for ABC, so perhaps Storm would’ve simply stayed put. One thing is certain: she would’ve found success no matter which show she ended up on.
But luckily for the sports world, that’s an alternate reality that doesn’t have to be imagined.
