For entire generations, the sight of one guy wearing a patterned sweater vest sitting next to another guy in a Detroit Red Wings jersey at a baseball game instantly sparks a nostalgic rush of dopamine.
The aforementioned scene is unmistakable imagery from John Hughes’ classic 1980s film “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” in which Ferris and his best friend Cameron attend a Chicago Cubs game during the day while playing hooky from high school.
San Francisco Giants broadcasters Duane Kuiper and Mike Krukow seem to have missed that one, or at the very least, it’s been a long time since they’ve watched it.
During Wednesday’s day game between the Giants and the Arizona Diamondbacks, NBC Sports Bay Area cameras found two fans sitting in the stands, wearing those iconic outfits. The only real difference, other than the fact that the men were closer to middle age than middle school, was that “Cameron” was donning a Giants cap.
It’s unclear if the production team expected Kuiper and Krukow to get the reference, but it became apparent quickly that they did not.

“There’s a Detroit Red Wings fan,” said a confused Krukow.
“Doesn’t look out of place at all,” added Kuiper.
“Long as you have that hat on, you’re good to go,” said Krukow. “Hockey season’s not that far away either.”
Someone eventually let Kuiper and Krukow in on the reference, or they figured it out themselves, as the cameras later returned to the duo.

“Well, it’s Ferris Bueller’s day off, and I think they’re having fun,” said Krukow, as the broadcasting duo started debating why Sloane Peterson wasn’t present at the game with Ferris and Cameron.
Mike also suggested that he and Duane might go as Ferris and Cameron for Halloween this year. We can only dream.
