A video is going viral featuring Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill, the two stars of the film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
The film is set to be released in the United States today, but it has received just a 30% rating on the Tomatometer by Rotten Tomatoes. Cavill has made it known he is much more concerned about the audience and fan reaction more than anything.
In the video, the two are asked about the negative reviews that the film has received. After numerous negative headlines are flashed across the screen, Cavill begins to answer the question while Affleck stares off into space, as The Sounds of Silence by Simon & Garfunkel begins to play.
The camera slowly zooms in on Affleck, and after Cavill is finished answering the question, the interviewer asks, “Ben?” To which he simply responds with a gloomy look, “I agree.”
One review of the film from Tim Martain of The Mercury, reads as such:
RIDDLE me this: how do you put three of the greatest comic book superheroes of all time into one big-budget movie and still make a mess of it?
Just ask Warner Bros. and DC Comics, apparently.
The long-awaited superhero smackdown movie, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, has finally hit the big screen and, well, it is awful.
Please believe me when I say I really didn’t want to have to say that. There were plenty of early warning signs that this was going to be a dud, but I went in to the cinema full of hope that my fears would be put to rest.
But, sorry, it just sucks.
Brad Keefe of Columbus Alive simply put it, “Spoiler alert: It’s not very good.”
The Dallas Morning News‘ Robert Wilonsky, said, “In the words of The Joker in a far better Batman movie: “Why so serious?”
Ty Burr of the Boston Globe appeared to be on the same page, saying, “Eventually the script’s illogic and the relentless pounding of the action scenes wear you down.”
Our Ian Casselberry called it an “ambitious, overstuffed mess”, which seems downright positive compared some of the other critics’ reviews.
Affleck has taken a lot of heat since it was announced that he would be the next Batman after Christian Bale held the role in Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises. His frustration and sadness appears to have come together right here in this video, where he really couldn’t look more sad than he did.
