At least some Democrats might be interested in seeing Stephen A. Smith run for President — but is he interested in running? Potentially.

During Friday’s episode of The Stephen A. Smith Show, Smith was highly critical of the job that Donald Trump has done since reclaiming the Presidency. But he also spared no criticism for the Democrats, saying that the party has no voice.

In a recent poll, 2% of voters said they wanted to see Smith run for the Democratic nomination. While that may not sound like a big number, its former Vice President and the party’s 2024 nominee, Kamala Harris, was the only person in double digits. Additionally, Smith finished just behind Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and perhaps more notably, Minnesota Governor (as well as Harris’ 2024 running mate) Tim Walz, who both polled at 3%.

And while Smith made it clear that a run was not likely, he didn’t exactly slam the door shut.

“I doubt I’ll ever run,” he said. “It’s not me. I live a pretty good life, and I don’t want to ruin it by getting involved in politics. But I got to tell you all something. The Democratic Party looks so pathetic. After this election, I might entertain running.”

Smith continued.

“I just might change my mind one day,” Smith added. “I doubt it, but I might. Because how much would it take to beat ya’ll? And Trump can’t run again. He’s done.”

It’s worth noting that, as Smith also noted, he’s registered as an Independent. So, running as a Democrat would require a change.

Also notable, Presidential candidates don’t usually start getting into campaign mode until after the midterm elections. So, while Smith might not presently be blown away by what the Democrats have to offer in 2028, that could change by November 2026.
