Less than two months out from the election, Stephen A Smith believes Kamala Harris will be the next president of the United States.
The sports taker turned political commentator appeared on Max’s Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace? this week and predicted a Harris victory over Donald Trump due to her appeal to political centrists and common-sense American voters.
“I still believe it’s going to be Kamala Harris that’s going to win this election,” Smith told Wallace. “I think she’s going to win this election because I think that when you take away the fringes … [people in the center] are going to look at her and say, ‘You can work with her.’ And the way the streets of America was when (Trump) departed from office in 2020, I don’t think a lot of people are going to want to relive that. They’re going to remember that, and by that virtue, it’s going to compel her to the presidency.”
Earlier in September, Smith issued Harris a knockout victory in her debate with Trump, stating Harris “kicked his a**.”
While perhaps not the most attentive political junkie in the media, Smith certainly hears out both sides. A self-proclaimed socially liberal, fiscally conservative 56-year-old lifelong New Yorker, Smith often gives interviews to centrist and conservative outlets. The First Take host isn’t afraid to give life to right-wing talking points but is likely a Harris voter himself.
In the interview, Smith explained why Trump’s plainspoken style appeals to some Americans, including increasingly Black men. Smith also previously joined the chorus of voices who were sharply critical of President Joe Biden after the first debate of the year.
So take his prediction with however many grains of salt you like, but Smith isn’t operating in a bubble. And if there’s anyone who understands how soundbites and public comments take hold of an audience, it’s Smith.
If Smith believes that Harris has an edge six weeks out from the election, his guess is as good as anyone’s.
