A remarkable element of the 2024 U.S. presidential election cycle is how many repeated sports jokes comments from the candidates have drawn. The latest there comes from former president (2016-20) Donald Trump, the Republican candidate for president this November’s, response to a question about his healthcare plan in a debate with Democratic candidate and current vice-president Kamala Harris Tuesday:

That led to a whole lot of sports jokes, around both coaches and players. Here are some of those:

It should be noted that this kind of recurring sports joke has been seen for candidates from both parties. Indeed, current president Joe Biden’s “I’m sick” tweet in July drew a lot of similar sports responses. But the “concepts of a plan” line in Tuesday’s debate was definitely asking for sports references, and Twitter/X delivered.
