The 2024 presidential election between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris will likely be a close race, but Bob Costas doesn’t think it needed to be.
With Election Day less than a week out, Costas joined The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz and made the point that if the right or left picked a more sensible candidate, they would have been able to win easily.
“If they weren’t so shameless and had come to their senses, it’s pretty clear that a center-right candidate, an honest, decent, center-right candidate, easily defeats Kamala Harris. At the same time, a sensible center-left Democrat who doesn’t have some of the negatives of Biden… pic.twitter.com/uynU5JvOPH

“There are millions of people who may have misgivings about aspects of Kamala Harris’s candidacy, but who cannot stomach the idea that somebody whose entire being is antithetical to actual patriotism, to American principles, to commonsense and common decency,” Costas said of the reluctance people have in voting for Trump. “That’s the thing that, to me, is the deciding factor. The irony of this is that if the GOP wasn’t so shameless with not just MAGA people and their red hats but lifelong Republicans, most of whom lack the spine and, devotion and principle to reject Donald Trump, they all come crawling to him and kiss his ring…It’s a very long list of spineless sycophants.
“If they weren’t so shameless and if they had come to their senses, it’s pretty clear that a center-right candidate, an honest, decent, center-right candidate…easily defeats Kamala Harris. But at the same time, a sensible center-left Democrat who doesn’t have some of the negatives of Biden and some of the wokeness stuff that troubles people…That center-left candidate would easily defeat Donald Trump. But these are our choices at this point.”
There is undoubtedly a desire for a sensible presidential candidate willing to embrace centrism. But these are our choices, and many Americans will say that glumly. While Trump and Harris each have their group of loyal followers who will heedlessly defend their candidate at length, there remains a large segment of the American population that is unhappy with their choices—Americans who want to feel a sense of comfort and trust in the ideals and morals of the candidate they’re voting for.
