The New Heights podcast with Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce, and Jason Kelce covered way more ground than any of the 1.2 million people listening live probably ever thought possible.
And one of the areas where Swift and Kelce opened up that was most intriguing was about all of the media attention towards their relationship.
It’s no secret that Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift probably have the most talked about relationship in modern America today. It’s the most popular singer and pop icon walking the planet and a future NFL Hall of Famer who has won multiple Super Bowl rings playing on a modern day dynasty.
Everyone from CNN to Today to Page Six was running a live blog of the podcast premiere on Wednesday night like it was a presidential debate. This is serious business.
But odds are that while the entire internet universe was revolving around them, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce were probably tuned out from all the reactions and psychoanalysis.
“We don’t, really. I don’t see a lot of things. I’m a firm belief if you’re getting your feedback from the internet and comments, anything you feed your brain it will internalize, anything you feed the internet it will kill. I’ve been in the music industry for 20 years, it’s pretty hard to hurt my feelings at this point,” Swift said.
And in what was a charming moment, both admitted that they have learned from each other in how to cope with the massive amount of media attention and all the strange moments that come along with it.
“She’s a pro and it took me a little while to be a pro about it, I think,” Travis Kelce added. “There’s still some wacko theories from the beginning that I was very like, ‘oh no, how is she handling this?’ The last thing I want to do is screw things up. Her being so calm, cool, collected and so real and understanding about everything that’s going on really made me grow up real fast.”
“You genuinely find a lot of online discourse to be truly hilarious and that changes things for me. If he’s seeing things and he thinks it’s funny and it doesn’t even affect his day at all, that’s completely bled into the way I metabolize these things,” Swift said. “Something can be about me. My name can be in the actual headline, and it can still be none of my business. People may be out here doing too much, doesn’t mean I have to do a damn thing,”
Swift added that she has had her Instagram comments turned off for a decade. Jason Kelce admitted that’s not his style as his combative and robust social media use finally saw him leave Twitter for a time because he was getting into too many online arguments. But in the end, it seems like all three of them have found peace with where they are in the public eye.
And as for the Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce relationship, it seems like both individuals are happy not diving into all the “wacko theories” and thinkpieces about their relationship because they are too busy and content living it out. And that led to a great moment where the two referenced an earlier bit in the podcast about Swift’s post-Eras Tour lifestyle and her “grandma” hobbies like bread baking. Seriously, sourdough bread baking took up about 10 minutes of the podcast and it was great and the entire universe is going to run out of breadmakers tomorrow.
“Can you imagine if we just talked about what people said about our relationship? If we talked about that, that would be all we talked about because there’s so much chatter. We’re busy having an actual relationship.” – Swift said.
“I want to hear sourdough bread puns,” Kelce quipped.
“Yea. And you will. And that’s a promise,” Swift responded.
