If you owe Shannon Sharpe some money, he’s probably coming to collect right about now.
During Sunday’s episode of Nightcap, Sharpe, whose tenure at ESPN recently ended after he settled a $50 million sexual assault lawsuit, was suddenly very keen to collect a $5,900 loan, plus late fees, from co-host Chad Johnson.
The conversation stemmed from a discussion around the contract standoff between Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and All-Pro linebacker Micah Parsons.
“I’ll pay you when I get ready,” said Sharpe, imitating Jones. “Like you do me. Like you owe me 5,900. You basically told me, ‘I’mma pay you when I get ready.”
“Oh no, I ain’t say that,” responded Johnson.
“Your actions did,” Sharpe said. “We’re coming up on a year. There’s a penalty for being late.”
“I’m gonna take care of you, baby. I’m not Jerry, I don’t like that comparison. Don’t do me like that… I got you,” Johnson responded.
“See, you got it, but I need to get it,” Sharpe replied before looking down at his empty pockets. “You know, pockets light right now, Ocho. Pockets light.”
“That’s why I love you,” Johnson said to Sharpe while laughing. “That’s what I need. C’mon back home to me. That’s what I need. Thank you. That’s the Shannon I need … We gon’ be alright.”
Sharpe has not made public what the final settlement was from that lawsuit. He also finds himself embroiled in another lawsuit over comments made on the show. So it’s understandable that the Pro Football Hall of Famer is checking the couch cushions for a little extra pocket change right about now.
