Adam “Pacman” Jones has big plans for The Pacman Jones Show.
For a former NFL player trying to build a successful podcast, he couldn’t ask for a better mentor and friend to have in the business than Pat McAfee.
The two former West Virginia Mountaineers — McAfee arrived as a freshman the season after Jones left for the NFL — have developed a bond. Jones has been a frequent guest on The Pat McAfee Show.
Now, Jones is hosting his own show, which streams on BetOnline. The former NFL star told SportsCasting.com McAfee has been a huge inspiration.
“Pat has been a big inspiration to me,” Jones said. “I learned a lot from Pat, being able to pick his brain and sit in on certain meetings. Without him, I wouldn’t be where I’m at business-wise. I give him a lot of credit. I see this being pretty big. I see it getting picked up by a big syndication, probably this year coming up. I’ve had a couple talks with different platforms, had a couple offers. Not one to really make me turn yet. But, yeah, it’s getting there.”
Here’s a recent episode of The Pacman Jones Show episode. You can get a great idea of the show’s tone in the first minute.
Jones’ antics as a player don’t need to be rehashed here. ESPN once described Jones as being Pro Bowl-caliber on the field, but “he has been nothing but a disaster off the field.” Even after his retirement, Jones has made headlines for the wrong reasons; he was arrested for disorderly conduct at an airport in 2023.
Yet Jones seems focused on his new media career, saying the numbers for his show have been “crazy” in the first year. The show is co-hosted by Evan Rosenblum, founder of TMZ Sports.
“It’s fun, man. I’ve hosted a lot of shows, been a co-host of a lot of shows,” Jones said. “It’s fun, putting the rundown together and picking what I would like to talk about. I enjoy having my own opinion, and I’m a guy who knows a lot about pretty much all sports and can relate to pretty much anything going on. So I’m eager, bro.
“This is my first year and my numbers have been crazy. Way more than I thought they would have been. Way more subscribers. Picked up by a lot of people because of different conversations, and breaking different stories before everybody.”
SportsCasting.com’s Kyle Odegard seized on Jones comment there and asked, “The Adam Schefter approach, huh?” referring to ESPN’s prolific NFL insider.
“Yeah, the black Adam Schefter,” Jones replied.
That answer sounds like pure Pacman Jones.
