Gilbert Arenas is no stranger to controversial takes, but he might have outdone himself Monday.

On his Gil’s Arena show, the cast previewed Game 2 of the Denver Nuggets-Minnesota Timberwolves playoff series. That led to the news announced Monday that T-Wolves center Rudy Gobert would miss the game because he had been in Minneapolis for the birth of his first child, with fiancée Julia Bonilla.

Arenas called out Gobert for missing the game.

“It’s a baby bro, it’s gonna be there when you get back … I’m just saying,” Arenas said. “Whatever you think you about to do with the baby, he’s gonna be asleep.”

“Right on the —–,” Brandon Jennings chimed in. “Right on the —– the whole time. Milk.”

“I get it, I hear you want to be with your wife and smile and stuff, but your good NBA health care, insurance is because of you playing,” Arenas said.

Arenas tweeted out the segment, with the question, “Rudy missin’ playoff games for…a baby?”

It’s terrible to call out a man for missing work to witness the birth of his first child. That’s a special moment, and despite the wonders of modern medicine, childbirth still carries risks.

One can argue that Arenas doesn’t really believe what he said, that he just did this to spark talk and promote engagement on his podcast. If that’s the case, mission accomplished — plenty of people engaged on X/Twitter. Many responses were so foul they can’t be reprinted here (sample: “You’re stupid and that’s the only way you can show it. Little b**** a**, narcissistic irrelevant mother******”).

As noted, Arenas is no stranger to controversial takes, such as the time earlier this year when he said the way to fix NBA defenses was to “Get rid of all the Europeans.”
