Chris “Mad Dog” Russo opened the phone line on Mad Dog Unleashed this week and then slammed it shut just as quickly after the caller tried to get political.
Russo welcomed “Hayden from Virginia” to the show on Thursday after opening the phone lines. That caller, though, had something non-sports-related to get off their chest. They picked up the line and went after President Joe Biden.
“I didn’t feel all warm and fuzzy seeing the Commander-in-Chief sitting in an imaginary chair,” the caller, Hayden, said before Russo interrupted him.

“That’s it. Cut Hayden off, that’s it. Goodbye,” Russo said, cutting him off. “That we’re not gonna do.”
Russo then explained that “Hayden” is apparently a frequent caller on the show. But because of what they often say, it doesn’t sound like Russo is very happy, and it doesn’t sound like it was something he would continue tolerating.
“Hayden’s not gonna call, folks. We are trying to make this a sports show. I can’t have him call every day and throw a political barb.”
The “stick to sports” debate has grown in prominence in recent years. Some have argued that you can’t ignore real-life issues and problems and that sometimes, sports offer an unnecessary distraction. In other cases, sometimes it’s best if the pundits stick to sports and the athletes, at least depending on what we want to hear from them.
In this case, we feel this might be in bounds. Russo obviously has discretion over his radio show and the phone calls he wants to take on. If he doesn’t want to get political, Mad Dog won’t get political or slander the President.
