Last week, we told you about Twitter’s plans to stream video 24/7. Twitter has announced that it has partnered with several media companies and sports leagues to provide live streaming content which will include games, highlights, news, entertainment, concerts and interviews.
The latest
- Clarence Hill Jr. talks decades of covering the never-ending drama of the Dallas Cowboys
- Overtime Select high school stars are next generation of women’s basketball growth
- Bill Belichick to host new football show for Underdog Fantasy
- Jason Kelce wore shirt featuring Ilona Maher, U.S. Olympic women’s rugby star once bullied for being ‘too masculine’
Twitter will also stream live golf action through PGA Tour Live with some 70 hours of live competition across 31 tournaments.
But one of the most interesting features of the live sports streaming will include a show from The Players’ Tribune called “#Verified” which will feature athletes interacting directly with fans answering questions and providing takes on various topics.
And there’s Stadium which is the joint venture between Sinclair Broadcast Group, Silver Chalice and 120 Sports. This will offer live college sports, highlights, live studio programming and classic games. Stadium will launch as a broadcast network and will also have a digital component. Stadium replaces American Sports Network.
Stadium will stream 24/7 so Twitter audiences will be able to access the network for free. Now that there’s some financial backing behind Stadium and the partnership with Twitter, it should be able to survive longer than ASN which lasted for less than three years.
So Twitter is hoping to make the social media service a video destination for its users and if this can bring more people to the service, then this approach will have been deemed a success. We shall see if this will work.
