This holiday season, millions of Americans tuned into the classic Christmas movie Elf starring Will Ferrell. But for those who perhaps didn’t get around to it this year, Will Ferrell gave them the next best thing on Sunday when he was captured on the broadcast of the matchup between the Los Angeles Kings and the Philadelphia Flyers dressed as his character, “Buddy the Elf.”

For the few who have never seen Elf, Ferrell stars as the character Buddy the Elf, a human who was accidentally born in the North Pole and raised as an elf before being brought back from the North Pole as an adult to adjust to normal society.

While the movie was largely a family-friendly classic for children of all ages, Ferrell was captured in a bit of a different light on the broadcast on Sunday night, being shown sitting alongside his family with an unlit cigarette in his mouth.

The real-life Ferrell in attendance of Sunday’s Kings-Flyers broadcast was a pretty stark contrast from the happy-go-lucky character that he played in Elf, which it seems like Ferrell is quite obviously playing up. 

Interestingly, this actually isn’t the first time that Ferrell, who is notably a loyal Kings fan, has come prepared as one of his movie characters at a Kings game.

In 2019, Ferrell hilariously joined the Kings broadcast team consisting of Alex Faust and Jim Fox dressed up as Ron Burgundy, his character in the movie Anchorman, which of course portrays a news anchor in San Diego in the 1970s.

Luckily for Ferrell, he would get a belated Christmas present on Sunday night, as the Kings would go on to win the game 5-4.
