Sunday’s game against the New York Rangers could hardly have gone better for the Buffalo Sabres, who came away with an 8-2 win. That said, we doubt the day went according to plan for Sabres analyst Rob Ray.
Buffalo scored late in the first period to take a 4-0 lead. The Rangers controlled the ensuing face-off and New York defenseman Will Borgen attempted to fire the puck down the ice but his pass was a little off target. Borgen’s pass sailed over the wall and hit Ray right in the face.
At that point, Ray let out an F-bomb that was as completely understandable as it was audible.

The game temporarily stopped as Ray was tended to. Fortunately, he never left his feet and quickly signaled for the game to continue.
Ray was later given stitches above the eye, which he got to show off later in the broadcast. When asked where he was hit, he pointed to the welt above his eye and said, “Right where the golf ball is right here. That’s not normal.”

During his playing career, Ray was known as one of hockey’s top enforcers. He remains Buffalo’s all-time leader in penalty minutes. So, this is far from the first time that he received stitches as a result of something in a hockey game.
