When it comes to the top broadcasters for their sports, Eddie Olczyk may be one of the busiest men working in television. Not only has he been the top analyst for a number of years for the NHL on NBC working alongside Doc Emrick, he also works locally in Chicago calling games as an analyst for the Blackhawks on CSN Chicago.

But that’s not all. Olczyk has also pulled double duty across sports as the noted horse racing aficionado has also become a contributor to NBC’s Triple Crown coverage throughout the spring where his analysis has been one of the highlights of the network’s coverage.

Hockey and horse racing is a pretty unique broadcasting resume. And now the popular hockey analyst is going to add yet another role to his ever-increasing portfolio.

Olczyk has been named as a new co-host for Kap & Co. with David Kaplan on ESPN Radio 1000 in Chicago. The hockey analyst will co-host the show twice a week, usually on Mondays and Fridays, throughout the year while continuing his existing NBC and CSN Chicago duties.

Former NHL Chicago Blackhawks center Eddie Olczyk is joining the ESPN1000 Chicago team and the Kap & Co. weekday show starting today, June 19. Olczyk will co-host twice a week, generally on Mondays and Fridays, alongside David Kaplan from 9 a.m. – noon CT.

“What an incredible opportunity to join the team at ESPN1000 and Kap & Co.,” said Olczyk.  “To work with Kap, who is a great friend and a media legend in our city, will be challenging and a lot of fun. I cannot wait to join him.  I’d like to thank Jim Pastor and Adam Delevitt from ESPN Chicago and John McDonough, the Blackhawks organization and NBC Sports for allowing me this flexibility.”

Jim Pastor, vice president and general manager of ESPN1000 Chicago, stated, “What fans may not realize is that Eddie is not only a legendary hockey and horse racing broadcaster, but having grown up here, he’s also a huge fan of all Chicago sports teams. Pairing him twice a week with his good friend David Kaplan will give him a chance to put those passions on display for ESPN listeners.”

In addition to his Kap & Co. role, Olczyk will continue his work for NBC Sports covering the NHL and horse racing and locally for the Blackhawks on NBC Sports Chicago and WGN-TV.

This is a great opportunity for Olczyk to continue expanding his broadcast role into a new medium. The former NHL player and coach has a lot of people around the world rooting for him after a public and inspirational battle with colon cancer. Given his presence in Chicago calling games for the Blackhawks and how well-liked he is as both a hockey and a horse racing analyst, Olczyk should be a hit on the radio airwaves in the windy city.
