Don La Greca replaces Bill Spaulding as voice of the New Jersey Devils

ESPN New York Radio host and longtime New York Rangers announcer Don La Greca will be the new TV play-by-play voice of the New Jersey Devils.

MSG Networks announced the news Monday afternoon, revealing La Greca will join analyst Ken Daneyko to form the Devils’ lead broadcast crew. La Greca has been a radio voice for the Rangers since 2005, hosting studio shows and serving as a backup play-by-play announcer.

After Kenny Albert was named Sam Rosen’s successor earlier this year, La Greca was viewed as a candidate to be the Rangers’ lead radio voice. Instead, the New Jersey native will now be the lead announcer of the hockey franchise he roots for.

“To be the voice of the team that got me into hockey as a kid, a team that represents my home state with an incredible fan base, and to follow in the footsteps of some of the great play-by-play voices in the sport is an absolute dream come true,” La Greca said in the press release. “And to work with the legend Ken Daneyko makes it that much sweeter. I can’t wait for the season to start.”

La Greca is following directly in the footsteps of Bill Spaulding, who has been the voice of the Devils for MSG since 2022. Shortly after La Greca’s news was announced, Spaulding shared a message to the Devils community, acknowledging he will no longer be part of their TV broadcast.

Spaulding graciously thanked the Devils organization for the opportunity and support during his three-year tenure, but did not share whether he had anything new on the horizon. MSG Networks did not acknowledge Spaulding’s exit in its press release announcing the addition of La Greca.

While adding the Devils TV responsibilities to his schedule, the 57-year-old La Greca plans on continuing to host his afternoon radio show on ESPN New York alongside Alan Hahn and Peter Rosenberg. According to the New York Post, however, La Greca’s radio deal is set to expire at the end of the year.

Michael Kay proved a dual role is manageable, famously working as the New York Yankees lead play-by-play voice during his more than two decades as La Greca’s radio co-host. Like Kay did with the Yankees, La Greca seems more than willing to make room for his dream job.

“You get to know the players and the coaches and travel with them, so that becomes your family,” La Greca told The Post. “But to now be able to do that with the Devils, with the team my heart was with, is just gonna be amazing. I guess the quote would be it lied dormant for going on two decades. Now it gets the chance to fill out and really come out, and that’s what makes this so much of a dream.”
