Tony Romo Jim Nantz CBS Screen grab: CBS

Just when you thought Tony Romo was falling down the ranks of NFL analysts, he reemerges by dropping a Little Giants reference.

Romo and Jim Nantz were on the call for the Denver Broncos-Baltimore Ravens matchup Sunday afternoon. And while trailing the Ravens 41-10 in the fourth quarter, Broncos quarterback Bo Nix looked like he was running for his life as he ran about 75 yards in the backfield all to set up a pass completion of no gain. But as Romo watched Nix run circles in the backfield, it reminded him of something else.

“He did his best Lamar. And this reminded me of Little Giants, ‘Blow the whistle, blow the whistle, blow the whistle!’” Romo said with a chuckle.

Epic reference. And Romo was right. Nix running away from Baltimore’s defense looked very similar to Rad Tad Simpson begging for the officials to “blow the whistle” as he ran from Kevin O’Shea’s Cowboys defense back in 1994.

Perhaps unaware of the ‘90s sports classic starring Rick Moranis, Ed O’Neill, and John Madden, Nantz didn’t engage with Romo’s Little Giants reference and opted to follow-up on the Lamar Jackson comment instead. After Nix was being chased again on the next play, Nantz asked, “How’s he feeling right now? He’s been running around quite a bit.”

“He’s exhausted, but I think he’s probably going to stay in the game,” Romo said to garner a laugh from Nantz.

In the same clip, Romo referenced the Little Giants and roasted Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson for asking out of their game last week because he was tired. Find another NFL analyst capable of pulling that off.
