The Netflix roast of NFL great Tom Brady resulted in a lot of trickle-down discourse.

That trickle-down reached another point this week as former New England Patriots great Wes Welker weighed in.

Welker played a crucial role for the Patriots from 2007 to 2012. While Welker never won a Super Bowl, he was one of the most recognizable players from that Patriots era and became the best slot receiver of his generation. Now the Miami Dolphins receivers coach, Welker, commented on the roast on the final day of their mandatory minicamp. Welker admitted that he declined an invitation to the roast, which explains his absence.

Welker said he didn’t have a favorite joke from the roast, adding, “I was a little disappointed in the Brady Roast. There was some funny stuff and everything, but you know, it was what it was,” via Pro Football Network.

Welker said the plans were not for him to be a roaster but instead, someone sitting in the crowd. “I was not asked to be a presenter,” Welker said. “I was asked to sit on the side and get roasted, which I’m glad I wasn’t there. To each their own, I guess.”

The former Patriots receiver’s disappointment echoes similar disappointments that Brady’s ex-wife, Gisele, and the seven-time Super Bowl Champion himself have voiced. Gisele expressed concern over how she and her family were portrayed, and then Brady followed up by voicing similar displeasures, referring to his children while doing so.
