Aaron Rodgers looks like an absolute bust for the New York Jets and Shannon Sharpe says the downfall couldn’t be happening to a more deserving person.
The days of excusing the Jets’ ineptness this season and believing a 40-year-old quarterback will eventually right the ship are over. The New York Jets are a bad football team with a bad quarterback. Their offense looks lifeless, and their quarterback is an old Aaron Rodgers, not the old Aaron Rodgers everyone was expecting.
For a team that entered the season with Super Bowl expectations, ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky said called the 2-6 Jets “as disappointing a team that we have seen in the NFL in a long time” Monday morning on First Take.

“It couldn’t happen to a more smug, cavalier, condescending guy,” Sharpe said of Rodgers. “Oh, that’s even low for you. Now, who else are you gonna blame it on? You’re running out of people to fire and demote. You fired Robert Saleh, you gonna fire Ulbrich now? The interim coach? You’ve demoted Hackett, whatcha gonna do? Demote the new offensive coordinator? Who else you gonna trade for? Who else you gonna bring in?”
Sharpe proceeded to mock the Jets and everyone who felt they were just “a quarterback away” last season when Zach Wilson led them to a 7-10 record. But with Rodgers under center this season, even getting to 7-10 seems farfetched.
Sharpe has a long history of calling Rodgers out that predates when many other media members started to turn on the polarizing quarterback. In 2012, Sharpe went on CBS’ The NFL Today and said, “He strikes me as a guy that it’s always someone else’s fault other than his own.”
It’s an assessment of Rodgers that has seemed especially true this season, a season that has already seen the Jets fire their head coach, swap offensive coordinators and trade for one of the best wide receivers in football. But as the Jets desperately continue to placate their quarterback, maybe it’s time to admit he’s part of the problem.
