Chicago Bears rookie wide receiver Rome Odunze can get open in the NFL… at least according to his father.

In case you’re new to the world of “NFL wide receivers and their dads calling out people on social media,” this isn’t the first time we’ve seen this happen. And it briefly sent Bears fans into a panic thinking that the Odunzes were already throwing #1 overall pick Caleb Williams under the bus.

Baker Mayfield is lighting it up and finding success with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in his second life as an NFL quarterback. But it wasn’t too long ago that Mayfield was the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns and caught in the web of Odell Beckham Jr.’s father, who would criticize the quarterback for not getting his son the ball. That led to a whole bunch of drama in Cleveland that ultimately ended up in Mayfield and OBJ both departing the franchise.

So when James Odunze posted this cropped video of his son getting open for a touchdown and not getting the ball, you could understand Bears fans and people around the NFL panicking and thinking the worst is yet to come. The post has gone viral with almost 4 million views at the time of publishing.

Deep breath Bears fans, because James Odunze is NOT calling out Caleb Williams. Rather, he’s trying to call out ESPN NFL guru Dan Orlovsky.

What was it that Orlovsky said that raised the elder Odunze’s ire? It appears to be this comment that claims that he isn’t able to get open yet at the NFL level while also seemingly complimenting him on his contested catch skills.

While that video shows a nice route, two things can be true here. Odunze has a very bright future ahead of him as an NFL prospect and he and Caleb Williams have all the talent in the world to be one of the best QB-WR combos in the league. However, both have gotten off to incredibly slow starts in their first two games. Williams is yet to throw a touchdown while Rome Odunze has just 3 receptions for 44 yards.

So all is well in the Windy City with their two star rookies. And surely the Bears fanbase will take it nice and easy and give Williams and Odunze plenty of time to settle in… right?
