NFL training camp and the preseason are a great time for teams and fans alike to get to know their rookie class before the start of the week-to-week brutality of the regular season.
In the introduction of Kansas City Chiefs rookie defensive tackle Peter Woods to the pros, one fun fact has escaped containment. The first-round pick out of Clemson apparently has an extremely good singing voice, and his teammates know about it.
“It’s just something that I grew up in,” Woods explained of his voice when asked about it during camp. “A lot of my family members are singers, up-and-coming in the music industry. My brother and my sister — my dad kind of cultivated that in us growing up. It’s just something that I’ve always had and been able to use.”
On Saturday, during Kansas City’s first preseason game of the year, Woods and his voice were put on the spot by sideline reporter Kimmi Chex.
“You my friend have quite the reputation as an incredible singer,” Chex said. “Would you be down to sing a little something here on the preseason? Give Chiefs Kingdom a little jingle?”
To his immense credit, Woods was game, going into a rendition of “Love” by Keyshia Cole, which Chex was set to accompany him on. Unfortunately, the audio cut out just as the singing got started, leaving the duo to groove in silence.

Maybe this was just an extremely ill-timed technical error, but it sure feels like someone in the production truck made an executive decision to not take the risk of copyright infringement, and there’s a good chance that decision was the correct one.
While it’s a bummer, for now it just means that the dulcet tones of Woods’s voice will remain a mystery for another day. As for Cole, she’s currently touring and although none of her shows are in the Kansas City vicinity, maybe Woods can make a quick day trip out before the start of the regular season.
